SPEEDMACHINE REVS UP WITH SILVERSTONE ENTERTAINMENT LINE-UP
Speedmachine festival – built around the British leg of the 2018 FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy – has today confirmed the full entertainment line-up for the Silverstone spectacular, with headline performances from Dizzee Rascal, Ministry of Sound and Basement Jaxx (DJ Set) to complement a weekend of thrilling motorsport action.
Marking the first-ever World RX round to take place at the ‘Home of British Motorsport’ in Silverstone, Speedmachine 2018 adds an entertainment package brimming with live music from world class acts, eGaming, drifting, historic car displays, on track action and the very best street food, not to mention the unforgettable chance to get behind the wheel and drive the Silverstone circuit yourself.
Whether with a group of mates or for the perfect family weekend festival experience, the world championship weekend will feature a full schedule of eclectic evening entertainment: from ‘Godfathers of Grime’ Dizzee Rascal and Lethal Bizzle to indie chart favourites Razorlight, funk and soul DJ Craig Charles and era-defining DJ duo Basement Jaxx (DJ Set), topped off with DJs from the iconic Ministry of Sound. Not only that, but Killa Kela, The Fedz, Dat Brass and DJ BBQ will all contribute to the fantastic vibes.
Taking place over the bank holiday weekend of 25-27 May 2018, the popular British round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship will make its debut at Silverstone with World RX superstars Sebastien Loeb, Petter Solberg, Johan Kristoffersson and more going bumper-to-bumper around a challenging new purpose-built rallycross layout.
This year’s first ever Speedmachine has signed a partnership with music giant Ministry of Sound Group (MOS) to form part of the weekend’s music entertainment with a Friday night takeover and throughout Saturday and Sunday, MOS DJs will perform in the VIP areas. All music will take place after the track action has ended, guaranteeing no action is missed. Several more acts and activities will be revealed in the upcoming weeks.
Paul Bellamy, World RX Managing Director for IMG, concluded: “It’s always been our desire at IMG to create a large scale festival weekend with World Championship motorsport at the heart of it and we are delighted that Silverstone is able to share our vision for the future. The move comes at a pivotal time in rallycross history with the sport having recently celebrated its 50th anniversary as the championship continues to experience rapid growth.”
In addition to the on-track action and headline music acts, Speedmachine is sure to thrill motorsport enthusiasts with a host of iconic Group B rally and rallycross displays and demonstrations, an exhibition of legendary machinery from Prodrive – including MG 6R4s and Subaru Imprezas – and a show of spectacular metal from The Players custom car experts.
Meanwhile, e-gamers will get the chance to taste victory themselves behind the virtual wheel of a World RX Supercar as DiRT 4 takes over a section of Silverstone’s iconic Wing building.
