The Latvian round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, the Neste World RX of Latvia, won by PSRX Volkswagen Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson in 2018, has been awarded as the Latvian Sport Event of the Year.

Established in 2005, the award is the highest honour in the Latvian sporting community. The ninth round of the 2018 season was the third time Latvia RX had taken place in the country’s capital city, Riga, at the Bikernieki National Sports Base circuit. Latvian heroes Reinis Nitiss and Janis Baumanis competed in the 2018 event, Nitiss securing the FIA European Rallycross Championship Supercar in front of his home crowd. The 2014 World RX of Norway winner was also nominated for two awards.

In the name of the whole Latvian motorsports’ community, I would like to thank everyone for this award – it really means a lot” said RA Events and Neste World RX of Latvia director Raimonds Strokšs. “I would also like to thank the Latvian Ministry of Science and Education, CSDD, Neste, and Live Riga for giving us an opportunity to do this job. A job that showcases Latvia to the whole world and that we will, hopefully, keep doing for a long time. I also want to thank all the people who work in this event, and there are lots of you, my RA Events team and anyone who has been a part of it – this award is for you!”
