2018 FIA World Rallycross Teams' Champion PSRX Volkswagen Sweden has announced it will put its World RX campaign on hold for 2019.

Two time FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg has stated uncertainty over the number of entrants for 2019 as the teams’ reason, saying: “The important thing to understand here is that this is a pause – a pause and not an end. As a team, we continue and we work together. We can’t say much about this now, but there will be more to talk about in the New Year. I still believe in World RX. I still believe this championship can deliver the most sustainable, relevant, entertaining and competitive racing anywhere in the world.”

Volkswagen Motorsport provided the Volkswagen Polo R Supercars to PSRX Volkswagen Sweden in 2017 and 2018, and continues to be interested in the electrification of rallycross. “Naturally, Volkswagen Motorsport will keep a close eye on any developments towards the electrification of the sport of rallycross. From the beginning we have been supporters of this initiative and we continue to be interested.”

Paul Bellamy, SVP & Managing Director, Motorsports, IMG, said: “Going into 2019, there is now a wide open field and a huge opportunity for existing and new teams to step up to the podium in one of the most exciting motorsports championships there is. We have a lot of young, talented drivers coming through and are in ongoing discussions with a number of new teams looking to enter the series, especially now that we’ve made the championship more affordable and competitive with 10 rounds. We remain in continuous discussions with a number of manufacturers, including Volkswagen, as we move towards an electric series with the FIA in 2021.”
